Charlie Sheen Returns To NYC

|
charliesheen.jpgWe all remember the last time Charlie Sheen was in The Big Apple.

Who could forget the naked porn star, $7000 in damages to his room at The Plaza, the lost watch, admitting to the cops he spent the night drinking and doing coke, and, lest we leave out this detail, ending up in the hospital with "an allergic reaction" instead of getting arrested?

I guess you could say things went better this time around, but not by much as The Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour was met with resistance and heckling Friday night, and a standing ovation on Sunday.

After a disastrous show in Detroit, and redemption at future stops in Chicago and Columbus, Sheen appeared to regress on Friday night at Radio City Music Hall as ticket buyers were met at the door with a sign banning heckling (with a promise you would be removed from the premises for doing so, a promise that was kept by security), Sheen struggling throughout the show to win over the crowd, and an ending that came about 30 minutes early.

Most observers and commentators were on the attack as Sheen appeared to be losing any momentum he picked up during the last week.  The epitaphs were being written.  Questions about his health being asked.

Bombing at Radio City Music Hall would be a disaster for the tour and Sheen, but he and the team followed up with a successful show on Sunday.

More focused, more interactive with the crowd and featuring an appearance by one of the most legendary baseball players in all of New York, Daryl Strawberry, Sheen saved the day and his own bacon.  Even James Lipton from Inside The Actor's Studio came on stage to ask Charlie about his favorite curse word.

Sheen said it was, "f*ck or Denise", which is kind of horrible of him.  Ex-wife Denise Richards has had plenty of opportunity and reason to bury him in the tabloids, but has always taken a high road publicly to save their two girls from the embarrassment.  While they are battling over custody of their pug, which Denise refuses to turn over to Charlie after accusing him of mistreatment and neglect, which lead to the death of the pug's companion, it's Charlie who seems to be getting aggressive about the situation.

The Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour rolls on to Boston and Atlantic City this week.

I guess it comes down to this.  The show will be good or bad each night based on how Charlie is feeling.  Let's hope he's ready to bring it in DC on April 19.
