Oscar Predictions - Best Actor - Can Anyone Stop Daniel Day-Lewis? No.

|

danieldaylewislincoln.jpgAre you ready for some history on Oscar night?  It's going to happen in the Best Actor category.

No man has ever won Best Actor three times.

The list of men who have won twice is substantial (Tom Hanks, Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Gary Cooper, Dustin Hoffman, Marlon Brando and more).  Nicholson has even won three Oscars, but one is for Best Supporting Actor (Terms of Endearment).

Is this the year for Mr. Lincoln?

You bet it is.  You can take this one to the bank.

Your nominees are:

Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)

Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables)

Denzel Washington (Flight)

Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)

Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook)

When I saw The Master, I thought Joaquin Phoenix was going to win.  His performance is so animalistic and full of rage, I was shocked it was coming from him, which is the sign of a great actor.  Of course, Day-Lewis shocked people as well.

His approach to acting has become the stuff of legend at this point.  When he walks onto the set, he becomes that character and stays in character through each break, trip to the men's room, nights at the hotel and more until the final shot is in the can.

He brought Lincoln to life in ways we have never imagined, getting the voice and folksy charm with people completely right, which is why he has won every award including The Critics Choice, The Golden Globe, The Screen Actors Guild and The British Academy award.

Congratulations Daniel Day-Lewis.
