I have been a dedicated reader of The YBF for quite some time now. One of the funniest blogs on the net, I was curious to get to know the woman behind the site. I had a chance to chat with the creator of the popular blog, Natasha Eubanks.
For
those who haven't read your blog, what is Young, Black, & Fabulous?
I would describe it as a lifestyle blog
that mixes celebrities, pictures, as well as the follywang side of black
Hollywood.
What
inspired you to start the blog?
I
didn't see anything like it out there at the time. There was nothing that
focused on black celebrities. I'm obsessed with celebrity gossip so I decided
to flip it. My readers are not just black or female. I get emails from across
the world.
How has the website grown since you began? What are your top three
most popular cities?
Top
three cities would be NYC, LA, and Atlanta. But in all the major cities really,
Texas, D.C outside the U.S, we get a lot of traffic from U.K and the Caribbean.
What's
an average day like for you?
Work,
work work! I wake up at 7:00 AM; I'm on Big Boys Neighborhood on Power 106 in
Los Angeles. It's a nationally syndicated radio show. I post on the blog all
day, answer emails, I do all the writing. I have interns that give me
information on stories, but I do 100% all the writing. I get about three to
four hours of sleep a night.
Wow,
that is impressive!
It's
a lot of work. Most people don't realize how much work goes into running a
website.
Who
are some of your favorite YBF style icons?
That's
hard! I have so many. Jada Pinkett Smith is definitely one of them. Halle
Berry is always stunning when she hits the red carpet. I also really like
Rihanna's style, but so in the sense that you know a stylist have prepped her.
Naomi Campbell always kills it.
What
are some of the prevalent social issues you feel are facing the African-American
community today?
Ownership,
that comes wrapped up with business. I talked about that in my Black Enterprise
interview. That's also something I point out in my blog, there's a distinction
between having your name on something and owning it. I'm all about economic
ownership.
You
recently posed for the No Against Prop 8 campaign. What was that experience
like?
Loved
it! I don't normally do red carpet or take pictures. But this is definitely an
issue that needs to be talked about.
What
can readers expect from YBF in the future?
I can't say too much but maybe TV and
books. A lot more.
