One Tree Hill Podcast: "The Desperate Kingdom of Love"

Listen Now

We're back! Finally! We've got our season 2 DVDs for One Tree Hill, we've got Jackie's brand-spanking new apartment to record in, and we've got enough, erm "essential supplies" to get us through a whole spate of episodes -- so let's get to it!

Deb, Haley and Nathan

For all the drama from last season, this first ep of Season 2 feels a bit disjointed to us. Oh, there's plenty of drama -- Dan's on his deathbed (the first time of many, we know...) Whitey has a brain tumor, Lucas and Keith have fled Tree Hill, Nathan and Haley got hitched, and Peyton and Brooke have made up... but this ep almost felt like it was marking time.

That's not to say we didn't find plenty to talk about -- there's Huey Lewis! Eeeee! And Deb completely loses it at Naley, which makes us mad. Plus, Keith makes lists, Brooke and Peyton burn Lucas' letter, Whitey dispenses wisdom (or dirty talk, as far as I'm concerned) and Naley is adorable. Listen in to see what we had to say! (Um, sorry about the echo -- we were podcasting in Jackie's gorgeous new place, which has high ceilings and next to no furniture, so our voices bounced. After enough booze, so did we!)

The Sourcies Snuggle Up with Best Couple!

We're entering week two of The Sourcies, and we have our first winner! Supernatural's Castiel totally smote the competition in the Favorite Newcomer category, reducing everyone else to piles of unrighteous ash. Julian from One Tree Hill put up a bit of a fight, but he was overcome by Castiel's holy wrath. Congratulations, Cas!

Today we open the voting for Best Couple, and we KNOW it's going to be controversial -- in part because of who we chose to go through. First off, we confined it to one couple per show -- we figured that was the only way to make things fair. That means your fave couple may not have made it. Sorry, but there are only so many nominees we could include.

Second, a note to Supernatural fans. You know we adore you. You know some of us ARE you. But here's the thing: Supernatural isn't really a coupley show. It's just not the point. So, we made the executive decision to leave the show out this time around. We know, we know, you hate us for that. Direct all complaints to Sarah -- as the chief SN booster, I'm the one who made the call. The rest of the crew is blameless.

Also, a lot of you nominated Sam and Dean -- they actually got the most nominations in the category! But the boys themselves had something to say about that:

Respecting their wishes, we left them off the list.

With that out of the way... voting for Best Couple is open! The poll closes on July 15, so get to it! And don't forget: There's still time to get in your vote for Best Fight!

Chuck and Blair
Gossip Girl

Oh, how we love this diabolical duo. Alone, Chuck and Blair are evil geniuses. Together, they're unstoppable -- and they make each other beter people. Plus, those kisses? So hot!
  Naomi and Liam
90210

Naomi is the rich girl who's willing to destroy anyone who gets in her way. Liam is the bad-boy adrenaline junkie from the wrong side of the tracks. Together, they're on fire. Let's hope the relationship survives last season's shocker!

Mel and Derwin
The Game

This couple has had its share of ups and downs -- baby mama drama can put a damper on things! -- but they came through it. Let's face it - Mel and Derwin are made for each other. We wouldn't have it any other way.
  Nathan and Haley
One Tree Hill

Can you believe Nathan and Haley have been married for so long? Even with a kid, a long-distance relationship and loads of high-drama happenings around them, they still manage to generate plenty of heat. We love these two!

Megan and Will
Privileged

Much as we loved Charlie, we 'shipped Megan/Will all the way. We loved their goofy charm, and were heartbroken when they broke up at the end of the season. We were hoping the show would come back just so we could see these two get back together!

The Gossip Girl Big Bad Bracket

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Big Bad Bracket, where we pit characters, concepts, plot devices and inanimate objects against each other to determine who (or what) was the biggest bad-ass of the season.

Much like the famed NCAA basketball bracket, we pair competitors up in a single-elimination contest. You vote on who you think would win each pairing. The winner advances to the next round, while the loser retires to lick his/hers/its literal and metaphysical wounds.

You'll notice a few notable omissions from the line-up. We didn't include the main characters, for a couple of reasons. First of all, what's the point of pitting anyone up against Blair Waldorf or Chuck Bass? It's no contest! Second, we didn't include the leading ladies of Gossip Girl in the Big Bad Bracket because, quite frankly, we didn't want to start World War III. We're wimpy that way.

With that out of the way, check out the first Gossip Girl Big Bad Bracket. Vote for your favorites, and see who or what advances to the next round! This week, we're starting with the first eight competitors in the New York Fashion Week Division. The polls close in one week , and we move on to the Blueblood Division, so get voting!

J's mullet:
Who could compete with the coif seen round the world? Jenny Humphrey's punk-meets-hillbilly do was more memorable than her clothing line this season.

Serena's assets:
With legs for days and Victoria's Secret-like décolletage, Serena has a body with a maturity level beyond her years. And the costume crew at Gossip Girl knew how exploit the hell out of it.

80's fashion montage:
What's Gossip Girl without fashion and 80's footage without a montage? When we visited Lily's teenage years it was a marriage made in heaven with spandex, headbands, and shoulder-pads made in hell.

Fauxcialites:
Everyone wanted to be the lovely young socialites in Gossip Girl, especially when they went strutting down the runway at Eleanor Waldorf's fashion show. But only Poppy Lipton would swindle Upper East-siders to climb the social ladder. Naughty fauxcialite.

Chuck's fashion choices:
Argyle, bow-ties, candy-colored threads -- we must be talking about Chuck Bass. Good thing Chuck had that colossally confident swagger, otherwise he would've never pulled off those velvet smoking jackets. Thankfully enough, he did.

Blair clones:
Imitation is the highest form of flattery, or in this case, servitude. Blair's minions not only mimicked her every move and sneer, but the headbands, preppy neckties and capes were sported around Constance Billard as well.

O.C. recycle Agnes:
Apparently, Willa Holland didn't cause enough drama on the O.C. As runway model Agnes, she ripped a giant hole in Little J's professional and social life when her fashionista lifestyle got out of hand.

One-upping Eleanor Waldorf:
The only thing big about Little J this season was her ego. After creating clothes under the guise of Eleanor's label that the department stores loved, J stormed out of Eleanor's atelier with her creations when she didn't get the recognition she wanted.

The Sourcies Start! Vote for Favorite Newcomer!

All right folks, we've entered the voting phase of The Sourcies! We're going to kick things off with a hotly contested category: Favorite Newcomer. The nominees are:

Castiel
Supernatural

We were worried about this guy when we first heard about him -- an angel? Really? And is his presence going to mess up the bond between the boys? But he won us over from the first moment he appeared -- and now we can't imagine the show without him.

Davis Bloom
Smallville

What's not to love about Davis Bloom? We loved almost every minute that he was onscreen. He's a healer and a hottie, he can stand up to a prying Clark, and he generated some serious sparks with Chloe... OK, fine, he just happened to be the human face of the ultimate destroyer, but nobody's perfect.

Julian
One Tree Hill

It seemed like Julian would be a bad guy when we first met him -- but those first impressions were deceiving. We fell almost as hard for Julian as Brooke did -- smart, funny, snarky, great with Sam, a good head in a crisis, and ridiculously romantic. Swoon!

Liam
90210

Pardon us if we lapse into cliche, but we just can't help ourselves. Liam is the sort of guy who was born to prove the axiom that good (and not-so-good) girls LOVE bad boys. This smoking-hot, tortured adrenaline junkie injected just the right hint of danger into the show.

Nina
Reaper

Who knew a love-sick, sort-of-reformed demon could be so much fun? She started off trying to kill Sam, and ended up falling for Ben -- which was the cue to let the hilarity ensue. We can'thelp but love this girl!

So who do you pick? Voting is open for one week. Make your decision, and feel free to talk up your choice in the comments!

We'll post a new Sourcies category on Monday, July 6. Check back then for more Sourcies goodness!

NOTE: Fear not, Sourcies fans! The Video clips of the nominees will be appearing with the next category. Because we have such a full slate this time out -- and because our video production wizards do need to sleep every once in a while -- we're running the clips on Mondays and Fridays, and doing photo posts on Wednesdays.

Podcasts Are Coming, We Swear!

We know, we know, we've been neglecting you. We said there'd be podcasts, and thus far we haven't delivered. It's been a matter of scheduling -- now that we don't all work in the same office, we're having trouble getting together to watch the eps and then dish about them. We're working on it, and hope to have OTH podcasts for you soon -- like, within the next couple of weeks soon. Supernatural podcasts... well, we're doing our best, but it might be with a different or rotating cast of 'casters. Which raises a question:

Vote, comment and let us know what you think. We'll let you know as soon as we've got podcasts to post, and thanks for your patience!

One Tree Hill: Bring on the Bad Girls!

We've got more casting news for One Tree Hill! First up, the news We've all been waiting for -- Rachel Gatina is coming back to Tree Hill! According to Michael Ausiello, Danneel Harris has signed on for at least seven eps next season, starting with episode two.

We are, of course, thrilled. We love Rachel's potential as a troublemaker, and we love it even more when we get to see her vulnerable side. Which Rachel will we be seeing next season? Will she still be dealing with drug addiction and the fallout from disappearing with Brooke's money after evil Victoria scared her off? Or will she be returning to her friends to start a new life? We can't wait to find out!

More OTH news after the jump!

Supernatural Casting News: Demons Galore!

We're getting more and more excited for the return of Supernatural (71 days and counting...) as we learn more about who we'll be seeing in the new season. One bit of news pertains to a character we knew we'd be seeing. The other is about a character we weren't expecting to see again -- and who will be returning in a different form.

We all know we're going to be meeting the ultimate Big Bad this season when Lucifer makes his appearance. Now we know what appears Lucifer is going to have. According to Michael Ausiello, he'll be played by Mark Pellegrino, late of Lost, Dexter and The Unit. That's him to the right. What do you think -- does he look like your idea of the Prince of Darkness? We think he'll do nicely... although we are slightly disappointed that Kripke didn't take our casting suggestion.

The other demon on our collective radar? Well, to protect that spoilerphobes, we'll talk about that after the jump.

New Golden Boy for 90210

By now, we all know that Dustin Milligan's Ethan won't be returning to that storied zip code next season -- and yes, we're depressed about it. We love Dustin, even if Ethan never really got our motors racing. So how can they possibly replace him as the resident golden boy?

According to Michael Ausiello, the producers hope to distract us from the lack of Ethan by dangling an Abercromibe & Fitch model/soap star in front of our faces. And while our hearts will always remain faithful to Dustin, our hormones are too busy yelling "Yowza!" to care. (Sorry, Ethan -- we're really, really shallow that way...)

Ausiello says Donovan will join the cast as Teddy, "West Beverly’s own version of JFK Jr." He will be a "heavily recurring" character, and we should see him show up sometime early in the season.

So what do you think? Will an exceedingly pretty blond boy be enough to make you forget Ethan? Do you think Trevor can pass for a high-school stud -- and do you care? What do you hope for from the character? Talk about it in the comments!
