Lois is always useless anyway; she can be unconscious or just gone in every ep. Give me Chloe, the real Lois of Smallville, any day. My only quible was that the reunion scene between Chloe and Clark was rushed, and should have been allowed more time. Chloe should have talked extendedly, but so fast Clark couldn't get a word in edgewise, and then Jimmy should have appeared. Allison is great at quick dialogue and it would have been more in character to have it that way. I got the impression the two characters and their momentous and surprising kiss in Vessel were given short shrift again, the writers thinking they could get away with showing us the triangle set-up then moving on all too quickly.
Premieres and finales on this series are too short. Such things should really be given extended length and this was no exception. It should have been longer than an hour and if they wanted to go long but not two hours, behind the scenes stuff would have been great.
Now...give us more Clark and Chloe saving the world together and I'll be happy!

Smallville is taking the myth of Superman and weaving it's own tale from the tapestry of the story we know. People already know what Clark looks like without the glasses. Like Lois does, come to think of it. Lois unconscious? Huh. Not the best way to make use of an apparently important character. Especially in a premier ep and when she has only thirteen in which to appear. Why? She couldn't do *anything* else in the *premiere*?
Chloe and Clark get to shine, that's all that matters.

I am exicted about this episode..I really don't care about Lois being ko most of the episode cause the real good stuff for her is coming in "Sneeze"....I hope they give us a really good Clois scene in Zod even if it is 2 min...I understand why she must be KO...she can't know about the FoS (not like others who had been there at least two times) cause LOIS meets the FoS when Superman takes her for the first (cause he wants too not because the person get trapped behind him and he has to tell her not becuase he wants to, noy because "hey you can't hide a ice castle can you")
So they are with the myth in that sense, Lois can't met the FoS yet, and since "Zod" was being filmed when SR wasn't even in theathers yet we could expect that Lois couldn't be use that much in that premiere.
So today is the day SEASON PREMIERE WOW ...is the conclusion of the last season so for me is like episode 23 with a big hiatus between this an "Vessel"...for me the real good stuff begins next week..but that doen't mean I am not going to enjoy tonight's episode

It was a great review and I am excited about the season - especially excited to see Clark and Chloe working together again at the DP and how they address the kiss from Vessel...oh, any how Clark handles this "Jimmy guy" that Chloe knows. I have to admit, I chuckled when I saw the description of what Lois will be doing - that's really funny.

Thanks for the link Claire.
Lois being unconscious is an easy way out because she can't know about Clark now but I was hoping the writers would find some other creative way to keep her out of FOS. I am glad it is Martha who talks to Jor-El and finds the way to get back at Zod. After Jonathan died the dynamic of the Kent family was not the same because I expected Clark to appraise Martha about the Zod situation. Maybe Martha can encourage Clark this season to go to FOS more and learn about himself.
I feel sorry for Lana. I am eager to see the introduction of Jimmy Olson and see how Lionel and Chloe have escaped the mob.

Lois knocked out during most of the hour?
THAT is the way it should be in EVERY episode :)
Looking forward to the intriguing Lana/Zod plot, the Clark/Zod fight, Martha in the Fortress, and the resolution to the kiss between Clark and Chloe (hope it's positive!).
The premiere looks action-packed and despite the disappointing promotional materials prior to the actual airdate, I'm getting really excited about it!

Oh wow, I am so excited (though I with the CW would get it together and be shown on DirecTV so I don't have to camp out at my best friends house to see the premiere!) - I too think the trials and tribulations of Clark, Lex, and Chloe are far more interesting and far more engrossing than SR ever was.
Of course, Tom, Michael, and Allison do have the harder task of making people involved to care week after week where movies only need those two hours.
Here's hoping the (missleading given that review) ads didn't off put people for the season - and that others have better luck getting the CW than I do. :)

I wish I could muster up some excitement for this premiere, I truly do, but with the recent CW advertising campaign that completely ignored Allison Mack I can't bear the thought of becoming invested in a season that is going to completely disappoint me when it comes to Chloe and Clark.
Time for more Allison Mack!

Erm, actually come to think of it - where is the news about the SUPERNATURAL premier?

Can't wait to see the resolution of the Vessel chlark kiss!!

Great review! With a wonderful mention for the gorgeous and talented Allison Mack!! There can never be enough Mack on TV :)
But the CW's continued habit of ignoring who fans want to see more of her has already turned me off Smallville. There's more than enough on come tomorrow at 8. At least the CW still has Supernatural, but that's about it.

LOL. Nois spends the whole episode unconscious?! That's *almost* enough to get me to tune in. Almost. Unfortunately, I'm hanging out with some Office friends then immediately thereafter I'm meeting a gal who is starting a new job in publishing.
The promos have convinced me that is the way to go for this season. Until the promo people show Allison Mack the love she deserves, I've got other plans.

"The only character with little to do is Lois Lane, who spends much of the hour unconscious."
This is the best news I've heard in weeks! And everything else about the premiere sounds pretty good, can't wait until tomorrow.

Yay for Smallville! Cool to see it up here! Interesting that they're starting to cross into territory that the first Superman movie covered, but kind of worrisome, like the series is coming to a close or something. Kind of scary thought.
Why isn't it's Thursday night premiere partner Supernatural up here? Considering the official CW site doesn't seem to even have an episode blurb up, it could use a little love on premiere eve too!
