Smallville: A Call To Arms

So, you’ve had a couple of weeks to sit back and think about all things Smallville, especially how Season 8 concluded. Essentially, we saw the conclusion of the Doomsday storyline with both Doomsday and Davis Bloom being rotten as all get-out and consequently dying at the hands of Clark and Jimmy, respectively. Just as Jimmy discovers Clark’s secret, he dies. Just as Clark and Lois are beginning to share some moments, she’s transported somewhere in time by the Legion ring. Just as we thought Tess would be killed off, she becomes the purveyor of Zod’s arrival. The fragile relationship between Clark and Oliver Queen has been strained to the breaking point. And as for Chloe, she lost a friend in Lana, her wicked smarts with the removal of Brainiac, a husband in Jimmy, a cousin in Lois and her best friend in Clark. Oh, and what about her power of ultimate healing? Did she lose that too (because she didn’t heal Jimmy’s pipe-through-the-gut wound)?

All of that being said, we want to know not only your thoughts on Season 8, your thoughts on Smallville as a whole, and what you want from Season 9. We’re serious! Feel free to wax creative by expanding on the ideas or questions you had at the end of the season finale. What do you think Zod will be after? Who will he use to manipulate Clark? Which new characters will be introduced and which characters will meet their end? How about the ultimate question: will Season 9 be the final season for a show based around the younger, formative years of Superman, or will the audience come back strong and plead a case for hitting double digits with Season 10?

Since the finale, a few comments already began accruing on what was disappointing with the season end, and the majority of you voted that the finale did not meet your expectations. It seems, based on comments, the number one disappointing factor was the Clark/Doomsday battle. We all wanted more, right? If you’re going to build a season around Doomsday, give us more than a few punches. There is no reason why two of the strongest creatures Earth has ever seen should finish a fight quicker than any everyday schoolyard brawl. The old Rocky treatment could have worked wonders here: let Clark get beat down for a few rounds (maybe even add the swollen, bloody eye) and then, just when we think there’s no hope left, he unleashes hell on Doomsday with a combo of punches never before or never since seen. But with the 30 seconds of screen time shared by Clark and Doomsday, there was hardly any time to settle into the groove of the fight before we witnessed a geothermal plant exploding and an anti-climactic feeling of what should have been. Have we missed anyone’s feelings on this?

From bkwurm1, we have:

“I don't care if the problem is the editing or the timing of these episodes, but it makes all the characters look like puppets when massive on/off switches get flipped without proper build up to character choices. Like Clark, what a massive jerk. If there had been build-up to his choice, maybe I'd feel some sympathy.”

We suppose bkwurm1 is referring to Clark’s decision to walk away from Chloe and turn his back on his emotions/humanity. Was anyone else disappointed with this scene? Did it feel rushed or was it built up adequately with the constant pressure Oliver and Tess both applied to Clark throughout the end of Season 8?

During the off-season, we will discuss what you, the readers, have to say about the show, so be sure to take the opportunity to be heard. Has something since Season 1 been bothering you and you feel you need to get it off your chest, lest you explode in a fiery ball of frustration? The comments that really strike a chord will be mentioned in the blog and debated until we’re all blue in the face. While we at The CW Source will attempt to stay unbiased, be ready for us to play devil’s advocate on topics to encourage your thoughts and responses in a different light.

Ready, set, GO!

Thoughts on Season 8
On whole thought is was a great season and alot of the stories built up nicely but the pay off didn't sit well with me. To spend the whole season watching Clark and Chloe protect Davis only for him to turn around and kill jimmy after being freed from Doomsday was just horrible. Also, I don't mind the dark path that green arrow's character went down but to actually kill someone? real heroes don't do that. Oh and why did the JL just disappear after the funeral?

Thoughts for Season 9
Clark needs to embrace his destiny without being shut off from humanity.
Love the fact that it looks like Chloe will watchtower next year (new set is cool, dying to see all the tech stuff that's going to go in there) because I would love to see more Justice League episodes. Having Chloe help Oliver get redemption for his actions is the way to go and maybe a little Chlollie action would be nice! heh a girl can dream right. Lastly, please no pregnancy it was hell to watch that on Angel.

What about an episode where Clark learns to use his magnification / zoom powers? You could tie it in with an introduction to The Atom.

Okay, this would only work if Clark was still Clark Kent, if he is not dead or in the suit or whatever. There are two episodes which I like very much, which are "Fragile" and "Subterranean". And I like those because the thing that matters on these isn't Clark's superpowers, it's his ability to talk into other people's hearts. He protects Javier and Maddie with his best ability: his humanity. I really think that Lois should see this at some point in the next season. That he should "save" someone just being himself and not the Red Blue Blur. Lois might be infatuated by the Red Blue Blur, but if she sees Clark do something as heroic as this, by himself, on a real life situation, she might just... have no jokes to hide how she feels about him. It would be such an awkward moment, and I would love to see it!

MY THOUGHTS ON THE SEASON FINAL

These are my thoughts just about the season final. I already said what I thought about the season, so here it goes.

1. LEGION, It was cool to see the legion there talking to clark and telling him that this was the day that he would die. I only wish that you went someplace with that. It seemed like clark accepted that this was the day he was going to die. But we didn't see much build up for what he had decided to do that actually changed his destiny.
2. LOIS and TESS FIGHT. The idea behind the two of them fighting was really good. However to be honest as a fellow filmmaker I felt that this was one of the worst shot fight scenes I have ever seen. Not just worst shot, but also worst choreographed.
3. JIMMY ISN"T JIMMY. I understand that if the actor didn't want to sign on for more seasons that you felt you should wright him out of the show. Here are some major points about the decisions. First off the character hasn't had much support lately and has just sorta been there so a recasting would have been fine. Perhaps his TWIN brother wasn't doing anything. I really don't think fans would have been upset if they had to deal with a new Jimmy for 1 or 2 seasons. Besides claiming that he was not THE Jimmy was one of the worst and most unnecessary plot twists in the history of televisions. Congratulations on that.
4. LESS CHAT MORE BEAT DOWN. I want to start off saying that on the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer "Buffy" fought more in a single episode of her show than Clark has in all 8 seasons together. That being said Buffy always had at least 5 - 10 min of actual screen time fighting in almost every episode. Even the episode where her mom died they inserted a vampire in the morgue. All I am saying is that you can not try and claim that it is a budget issue because that character had super powers and they made it work in every episode, so can you. Besides your fans have been wanting to see that fight all season. Clark didn't even fight, he just grabbed Doomday and jumped with him. That was it. That did not make fans happy.
5. MORE FIGHT. Clark talks about what happens in the fight, and how he barely escaped the explosions. Why was this not shown? If it was goo enough to mention then it was good enough to show (in a fight situation). Talking about a fight is not the same thing as seeing a fight. Hence when people say "You should have been there" or "You had to see it".
6. "THEY ALL LEFT ME". The comment at the very end about everybody being gone (Oliver, Bart, etc) did not make any sense. We just saw all of those characters in the scene before and there was no reference to them leaving. So why would you choose to say that, when there was no footing made for this comment. The only part of the conversation that made sense was about Lois being gone.
7. ZOD? We have been there before, so why do we have to return there. Also why would ZOD be in that crystal if he is in the phantom zone? That falls under the "properly follow the story-lines destination" rule. It would make more sense for it to be LEX than anybody ells but that can not happen with out Rosenbaum. I already explained that thought in another post i made.
8. LONGER ENDING. This episode would have been great if you made it a two hour special. I am not saying you will find out the rest during the season opener. I am saying the story that was told needed an extra hour to explain what was going on. The episode you gave us made everything happen too fast and did not allow us to fully understand things. If you took your time to tell the story that you were TRYING to tell us, than fans would have liked it better.
9. LOIS AND THE RING. I like that you did this, I hope that you choose to place her in the past for a quick fix solution. If you want to know what I am talking about read my last post.

Indeed, the most disappointing thing on the last episode was the battle between Clark and Doomsday. AND Davis going all insane with Chloe. I really loved him as a character and, even if I understand why you'd to take this course for the sake of the plot, I didn't like at all.

The two best scenes of the episode were: Clark (as the Red Blue Blur) talking to Lois on the phone - I really really love these conversations, Clark doesn't seems to notice, but he exposes a lot of himself in these talks -, and Clark's final scene with Chloe. Honestly, I keep replaying that conversation about his humanity over and over again, it was a masterpiece! He was so right and it made a lot of sense in the story, in my opinion. BUT, after all that was said and done, he cannot go back in being Clark Kent (who, I might add, "Is dead") or even the Red Blue Blur. I agree with everyone who has said in the past few days that Clark HAS TO become Superman on the next season. I just don't see any other choice for him. If he wants to help people, if he doesn't want to get attached, he HAS to come up with this other identity under which he will hide himself not getting 'personal' with anyone.

About Lois... I dunno how I feel about her travel with the legion ring. I don't want her to go to the future. I wouldn't want her to know Clark's secret either, not like that... What I would like is that she went to some alternate universe or anything like that and then come back, like on episode 4 or so... by the time she is back, there is no more Red Blue Blur, but there is a Superman. She starts to investigate about this guy and eventually she finds out that he is Clark (or he tells her)... I would like to see her shock or satisfaction or whatever that she'll feel by meeting this "new" superhero of Metropolis...

BTW, sorry for my bad english ;)

You're right. The ending did suck massively. The only good part was the Lois-into-time thing. It would be cool to have her sent to the Legions time. Everybody would be so honored to meet Lois Lane. And she would see how this 'Superman' hero changed the world. And when she comes back to the past, she won't remember anything of course, but the Superman name will stick with her. Everything else about the finally sucked big time. They should have had this HUGE fight between Clark and Doomsday and have them BOTH "Die" though, just like the comic, it wouldn't stick. Oh, and bringing Zod into the real world. It's already been done. For the love of god, get an original idea.

Nice post already. One thing that I left out. Please give us the "feel" again. Like the first episode, Rosetta, and when Kal-El flew. Give us those goosebump feelings. Give us that Superman "feel" and all will be right.

And again, push the non-mythos characters to the back and give us tradition. I began watching this show when I was 29. Us aging Smallville fans deserve what was promised from season 1.

THOUGHTS ABOUT NEXT SEASON OF SMALLVILLE

This is just suggestions for the story line for how you can start off next season. Sorry if any of these things are what you actually are doing. I guess that would just mean that we are on the same page.

1. Fix how the season ended. Lois was taken to some point in the past/future. Make it be the past and have her do something that will drastically change the future. Lex never died, Chloe is killed by doomsday, Jimmy is still alive, and Clark is not dark and angry. Lets be honest most fans hated how the season ended. The ultimate way to show your appreciation for your loyal fans would be to fix the wrongdoings. Plus a fix by Lois being in the past is completely believable based on the sort of stuff that happens in the world that smallville takes place.
2. Zod never comes, in fact you can be showing stories between Lois in the past and the World today. Just as Zod is about to destroy everything Lois can come back to the present and causes everything to change. Everybody can act like it never happened because they wouldn't know (gotta love the butterfly effect). And Zod will have never been released.
3. Lex comes back. I know this is only possible if Rosenbaum returns. The guys new show got passed up on. So write up a contract, ask him with sprinkles and whipped cream on top, then through a Phi Alpha (SAE frat thing) his way and see what happens, If he does come back, write it off as though when the fortress fell he lost all of his memory and that he has been in a coma in prison. He slowly remembers who he is and why he is in jail but has no memory of the Kents. At least nothing more than Clark Kent was a kid who lived on a farm that his dad once tried to buy. That sets it up perfectly for why Lex knew Clark's secret yet never knew who Superman Is. And with Lex in a coma and in Jail (for when he wakes up), there is still reason for why Tess is running things.
4. Batman. I know their are probably legal issues preventing Bruce Wayne from entering smallville. But they could at least make reference to the character. Something as small as Oliver saying he has a meeting with Wayne Enterprises. Or have Clark go to Gotham. Or at least mention Gotham.
5. Have Papa Kent return to clark in a dream. It could be a story line involving Clark keep having dreams about his childhood and his dad is playing with him as a kid. In these dreams can have a common theme which points to something that Clark needs to find that his dad once hid years ago, that he Jonathan forgot to give/tell clark when he got older.
6. Clark Kent is Superman. Not literally. I am saying he should start acting like Superman. I mean the Christopher Reeve Superman not the shitty Brandon Routh one. For example, he should start acting like he knows something about the world (hence does not fear it). Every time Clark saves somebody he practically acts like he isn't sure if he is supposed to do it or what he should do. So in other words give the indestructible man some confidence. That way when he gets smacked around for a change, let him seem more shocked and less like it happens a lot.
7. Pick an effect and stay with it. When clark Kent heals choose how it looks when he heals and stay with it. Don't make it so that the wound glows and heals one time and then is just healed with out anybody noticing the next. Pic a method and stick with it.
8. Less hospital visits. I feel like We have seen the hospital more times than we have seen Lois. We like her. Write her in all 22 episodes.
9. How to end the show. Another good way for Clark to See Martha again could be at the end of the season/series, Build up her return through out the season with random calls or randomly mentioning her. At the very end of the series Have clark in the fortress and Have him just return from saving the world. This time Clark Flies there. Have Clark talking to JorEL and just as JorEL finishes telling him that Clark has finally become who he was meant to be have Martha enter from the portal. Have him talk to her. Have her say how she has been trying to save the world on the political side of things. And that she is proud of Clark for being the man he has become. Have her say she found the red cape in the barn that he received as a gift. And that she made him something that will help him stand out as a symbol to the rest of the world rather than just a hero. Then Have her explain that she has been learning how to read kryptonian because Lionel willed her all of his stuff on clark. And that she learned that the S in the diamond stands for something cool (hope, or something). I am sure it already has a great meaning, so just use it. Then have him put it on. Then he can button a shirt and tie up over it, then sldie glasses on as he tells her that he should get back to work. Then Have something happen that he hears with super hearing a Helicopter is about to crash into the Daily Planet with Lois in the chopper (this would get you fan brownie points for tying in the first movie starring reeve to the show story line). Thats when you finally cue the official superman music and have him pull off the glasses and open the shirt back up, as he flies off into the sky. The camera pans down to Martha as she says "go get em... my SUPERMAN". But the ending shots must be the classic superman flying off into space ending (like in the movies). This could also tie in very nicely to the planned Superman Reboot which all fans are hoping will star Tom Welling as Superman.

- Sorry for writing so much. Hey if you really enjoy what I wrote and actually want to hear more from me feel free to email and we will talk further.

MY THOUGHT ABOUT THE SEASON ALL TOGETHER (excluding the final).
Overall I thought the season was great. There were just a few things that bugged me.

1. Death to Lex. I understand that Rosenbaum did not return and recasting is out of the question. But you did not need to kill the character (if that was really lex). Besides the perfect time to bring him back was when the super hero who grants wishes was talking to Oliver. He could have said as she walks out of the room or once she had left that he wishes he never killed lex luthor. She could be in the other room and you show her eyes glow and her say Consider it done. Then perhaps later in the episode you can show oliver reading the same newspaper but it have a new headline on the front page. Even if it is something as small as a title in the daily planet saying LEX LUTHOR BEHIND BARS.
2. I understand that budgeting a show like this a very difficult thing to do. However the show needs reacuring characters that pop in every once in a while during the series. But make it casual. Nothing crazy. Something as small as a character who works at the planet that just stops by clarks desk and asks clark for a pencil. If a character is in the main title sequence they should be in every episode. Otherwise the world that the show takes place in does not feel as believable.
3. What happened to Mommy. Clark lives in the farmhouse still. His mom works out of state. Yet she seems to not even exist to Clark Kent. He should at least get the occasional phone call from her. Martha Kent is a dead character that isn't actually dead. That needs to change.
4. Clark is at a point in his life where he needs to stop backpedaling. He is on his way to being Superman. He needs to take more steps towards that and less detouring him.
5. Thank you for officially ending Lana's story-line. That was one of many things that I loved about this season.
6. Mortal Clark. That story has been so over done. That's like Angel losing his soul several times during the story between the two shows. We have seen it, we get it. Whatever we know hell get his powers back.
7. Also Clark needs to stop coming in contact with characters that he should not be meeting for several years. Yes it is cool that Zod will be his new ultimate challenge. But that is retarded. He should not be seeing Zod again just before he becomes Superman.
8. Yes I remember, No Tight's No Flight. I agree that those should happen together. But the show needs to have it happen in order to ultimately end the show with Fans smiling. Now I know you never give the fans what they want (tv rule). Just please make sure the show ends with what we want.

Ive read somewhere that Tom Welling doesnt want to wear the blue tights and the cape, which if its true is messed up. He is supposed to be superman not the "red blue blue." Superman is my favorite hero and I keep watching all the episodes of smallville hoping that they will stop teasing the fans. Im hoping that the season 9 will finally show what everyone wants to see. Him fly and wear glasses and stop complaining about being different. I was dissappointed how they changed the doomsday story. Doomsday is supposed to be the only one to kill superman, but the fight only lasted for a few minutes. All season, they teased us for the fight but they hardly showed us anything.
The show is decent, and I am looking forward to seeing season 9, I just hope that I wont be dissappointed anymore

I'm looking forward to what the season 9 premiere has in store for us. If you look at all the previous finales, and then the next season's premiere, most or all of the cliffhangers/conflicts are resolved in the premiere.

To start off I've been browsing many different forums, and collected my own and other's different theories. I'd like to share them with everyone to make them wonder, and make them just a tad bit more excited for season 9, and also, to keep everyone guessing. Here we go:

The Louis cliffhanger leaves a lot of wiggle room for the writers. Will we see her catch a glimpse of her future and destiny, will she have her mind erased by the legion, returned to her own time and meet the Clark Kent with glasses, or does she alter the season 8's finale in some way with her time trip, affecting Clark, Doomsday or Jimmy's outcome.

As for Jimmy not being the real "Jimmy Olsen", but Henry, Jimmy's older brother, I think that was brilliant. Perhaps we will see a large time lapse in between season 8 and 9, and the real Jimmy will be older, and working for the Daily Planet. I've heard one pretty interesting theory, though unlikely, perhaps Clark repairs the fortress and begins his training, time is different at the fortress, so maybe by the time Clark is done with his training, years may have passed and Jimmy is now older, the obvious flaw in this is that the entire cast would have to look older of course, which is why its unlikely, but interesting.

As for the Zod cliffhanger, perhaps Zod has Lex's DNA, and made a vessel for himself?, or maybe since Zod is Doomsdays father, Sam Witwer will be a suitable actor for Zod?

And lets face it, Lex can't really be dead, there are 1,000 different things that could have happened instead. The body in the explosion was a clone? maybe Lex planted his DNA and the kryptonite ring at the scene? Perhaps lex was consumed by the Orb when the fortress self destructed, and is now again the vessel for Zod? and the lex luther we saw in season 8 was a damaged clone?(That one is a little far-fetched).

And as for Doomsday, was that really the final battle, are you serious? maybe the producers have just given you a taste?, perhaps Lex comes back or Zod/Lex unearths doomsday from his tome, maybe Lois alters the outcome of the fight.Who knows?

What was Chloe talking about when she said Oliver, Canary and Bart were missing?

Was that the real Clark Kent we saw at the end of the finale, and why did he fade away instead of just dissapear into a burst of speed with a gust of wind, perhaps he was a ghost or just a hallucination?

And if that was Clark(I'm guessing it was), then he didn't die a physical death, but a metaphoric death, and is embracing his destiny. Maybe he will start to wear glasses to disguise his true Kryptonian identity? Its all up for grabs.

Was Chloe touching her stomach when Clark left because she may have been pregnant? or was it nothing?

How did Clark escape from the explosion unscathed? and why didn't they show him escaping? did something else occur down there?

Theres all I have so far, lots of cool stuff, makes you wonder how it will turn out, some of it may be far-fetched, but a kernel of possibility behind some of it, who knows yet?

As for me, this is how I would like it:
A bit of time passes, maybe 3-6 years, Clark starts wearing glasses, has embraced his destiny, but not yet put on the tights, and can't fly yet. Lois had her memory erased by the legion when she visited the future, so the Clark Kent we all know and love can work at the Daily Planet without Lois knowing he has perfect vision, they then begin their Love fest:). Zod resurrects Doomsday and Clark has a epic battle of monstrous proportions with him. Zod stands by and watches perhaps to test Doomsday? or maybe joins in? It would be cool if this was all a test Zod created to challenge his son. Chloe being watchtower fulltime will be interesting, perhaps we will see more justice league episodes.

But if most of all of that I just said doesn't play out, when it all boils down I think it would be cool for the last and final episode of the series to have Clark learned the ability to fly, maybe for a few episodes, and exploring this new gift. Saving the world, living out his destiny, thriving at the Daily Planet with Lois at his side, participating in Justice League operations, renews his faith in humanity and human spirit. Then finally, to wrap it all up, shows him making his costume, but not necessarily putting it on, not sure Tom is ganna go down that road:)

Overall I really enjoyed this season. Like every year of SV, I do feel that the season finale is a bit rushed. I think having a 2 hour season finale would do much for the series.

As far as next season goes, I want to see Superman. Clark is no longer a kid in school. He's working at the Daily Planet. Just based on this alone, he should already be Superman.

Personally, I'd like to see a complete season of SV with Clark as Superman.

wow, shane. totally agree with you. the only thing i would add is leave out lois for the 9th season. lois is superman's future, not present. if the show does go in this direction, i will return to the series.

Ok. Here we go. This is truly what everyone wants. Make the stories this year mostly Clark centered. He is the hero. Give him flight (and make it meaningful- have him fly around exporing this new ability), give him glasses (and do it early so people get used to them), bring in Perry White (to teach Clark how to be a true reporter), fix up the fortress again (lighter please). Align the mythos early so we begin to see and care for the (new and old) characters again . This is what we have been waiting for . . . 8 years and counting. I like Chloe, Tess and Oliver . . but put them in the background for good. Leave Doomsday buried. Bring back Lex for the last few episodes to give a glimpse of the future. Take Clark back to his roots about being a hero, have him care about humanity and his adoptive home. Bring back Jor-el and/or Martha periodically to teach him about love again and make him the brave, courageous, man of tomorrow, leader of all, gut-wrenching, tears of joy Superman for one (full) episode. That would put all of this other stuff to rest and send this show to where is should have gone 3 seasons ago. I love this show. Superman is my favorite hero of all time. Please, Please put love behind this show and its long cherished mythos . . . and make us not want to go out on Friday night until after we have watched our favorite show.

First of all, let me agree with Katie when she mentions: "GLASSES! Please people I'm ok with no suit but you totally have an excuse for the glasses now."
I've read a couple of peoples thoughts around some random forums talking about how the writers couldn't possibly pull off Clark working at the Daily Planet and him finally becoming Superman when he could easily be recognised by Lois and everyone else at the planet because he doesn't wear the glasses. Hence, i totally agree with Katie with the glasses thing! I think they should introduce that in season 9! The fact that they introduced the whole "Clark Kent is dead" thing in the season 8 cliffhanger makes the idea for him to get glasses absolutely perfect storywise because then we may finally see a different side to Clark. And I too don't mind him not having the suit ... It wouldn't be 'Smallville' if they were to introduce the suit.

And I also agree with Katie about her thoughts on the Lois storyline ... it would be interesting if they allow Lois to get a glimpse of her future and do something that could align the show with the movies.

I haven't heard anything about a pregnancy speculation, but it would be interesting if they do a storyline on that for Chloe. I feel so sorry for her! She's lost almost everyone she cares about in the season finale.

I'm glad that they gave closure to the whole Clark and Lana storyline. Their whole "love story" was going on for way too long, and I quite liked the way in which the writers showed how Clark and Lana aren't destined for each other. This ensured that they could never be together again .. and I know I'm biased, but I liked that!

Definitely not pleased with the Clark/Doomsday fight, and even parts of the season finale, but I can't entirely blame the writers because of the fact that they were only given the green light for a season 9 halfway through the season. They were pretty much forced to write up a last-minute season finale, and because it was late notice, they weren't able to allow some story arcs to progress in the way that it could've if they knew the fate of the show earlier. In saying that, I'm so glad there's going to be a season 9 because if there wasn't, the series finale would most likely have been the worst way they could've ended the series. At least if s9 is the last season, maybe they could give the series a proper and well-deserved ending.

I have so much more to say but I'm going to end it here because I'd probably keep going on and on and people would probably be sick of reading everything else I have to say.

Oh, but before I do, I just want to say that the Lois and Red-blue-blur scene in the phonebooth at the end of Stiletto was absolutely EPIC! I hope they give us more Lois and Clark/Red-blue-blur moments like that in season 9!

:D

Upset at Clarke's giving up his humanity? You're kidding right?

You do remember the "Death of Superman" plot right? You know, where Superman is replaced by four supermen? Well in this case, the real Clarke is who the hell knows where (dead?) and the thing walking around that we saw at the end of the season is that "City of Kantor" glowy thing that Tess was talking about at the end of the season.

They need to give Davis Bloome a better ending. The stuff they came up with was sick, discusting, and disappointing..

I love Smallville and will watch it til the very end even if the show disappoints me at times with ridiculous storylines. I've been watching since day 1.

Oh and why am I getting these newsletters a day late all the time? I never get a email back when I ask.

will love the series to death

Here's the thing. I have watched every episode of Smallville, multiple times, and no matter what happens with the show's future, I will love the series to death. However, if you watch the series from season 1 through season 8, I think we can all agree that superman's "potential" is being talked about but never shown. In season one, Clark's powers develop to the level we know and love. In season 2, he realizes he is the lasting member of a dying race and basically that no one could ever stop him and his destiny. In season 3, Clark finds himself as a hero and accepts his role. In season four and five, Clark embraces his kryptonian heritage. In season 6 he realizes that he is a leader, and that he can inspire many more people to do good with his actions. And seasons 7 and 8, he realizes...nothing. These episodes are not going towards any goal. And throughout these 8 seasons, we have never seen Clark's potential as a superhero. We have firmly established that Clark is a being meant for a purpose for good, but show us his power. Please! I love this show, I would love to see this show for 8 more seasons, but it needs more money!

Well first of all the out of nowhere character switch that Davis' character was assassinated with was THE most upsetting aspect of the season finale. I could kind of understand the rest and the aligning of Jimmy with mythos was fine for me. But the ending they gave to Chloe and Davis (one of the most interesting aspects of season 9) felt ridiculous and just so wrong. I vote for a continuation of that storyline with Chloe rather than a complete abandonment and move on approach. The pregnancy speculation was the most interesting part of the 'cliffhanger' - so I really hope the show goes that way - and gives us an actual to term pregnancy. However on the upside - lost in time Lois is an awesome cliffhanger and a great way to start the season or to reintroduce Lois - I was really hoping that she could have some glimpse of her destiny - perhaps a Superman Returns kind of insight - clueing her in on the fact that in the future she has a son and a pulitzer - it's an interesting throwaway remark to align the show and the movies again. ZOD - I'm just gonna let SV roll with that and see where they go - if anything the character if Davis proved they can do wonderful things - I just hope they have it entirely planned this time. Oh and dark Clark? I'm good with that - it finally pushes him away from needing Chloe all the time to being his own person - with a cynical take on Clark Kent as we see in the movies - so yeah I wanna see that AND GLASSES! Please people I'm ok with no suit but you totally have an excuse for the glasses now. Wow that was long. But on the whole - I conceptually liked a lot (most) of the finale just not its execution or they way it ended Davis' character. I think that needs to be redressed and the season 9 season finale must be better planned.

You always hear excuses about budget cuts from the producers and writers of Smallville when it comes to letting fans down on things like the Doomsday fight. Well, if they can't afford to do things like that, then they shouldn't have started the storyline in the first place.
