The CW: Hellcats and ass-kickers join the schedule
The CW is sticking with what works, adding just two new shows to its schedule. But those two shows allow the net wot stretch out its original programing over five nights -- a first for the relative newcomer.
In keeping with The CW's emphasis on TV for chicks who spend, the net's two new shows feature women -- one concentrating on women who do high kicks, while the other follows a woman who kicks ass.
New shows:
Hellcats - Wednesday 9pm
So, remember "Bring It On?" Remember the part where a rebel-type chick who used to be a gymnast joined the cheerleading team, and hilarity ensued? Take that plotline, move it to a university in the South where football is life, then stir in Ashley Tisdale as the leader of the cheerocracy and Tom Welling as an executive producer. Go, Hellcats!
Nikita - Thursday 9pm
Maggie Q is the titular character, a woman who was taken out of prison and trained to kill for the CIA. Now she's escaped the agency, and she wants to make sure the ones she left behind have an opportunity to flee as well. Plus, Maggie Q had the best quote of the Upfronts: "I don't think any of you understand how good looking it is backstage. It's very intimidating. I had to push the A cups up a little. We exist!" How can we not want to love the show after that?
We've got the full fall schedule -- and our comments -- after the jump. Read on!
The CW This Fall
Monday
8pm 90210
9pm Gossip Girl
We can see 90210 and Gossip Girl together -- they're both deliciously over-the-top teen soaps in a rarefied environment. We approve.
Tuesday
8pm One Tree Hill
9pm Life Unexpected
Both of the bubble shows are back, and they're hanging out together! Again, it works for us -- they're both very family-centered soapy dramas with a lot of heart. Two thumbs up. Our only quibble: We'd switch the order, because Tree Hill's occasional sex-tape shenanigans make it feel like a later-in-the-evening show, while Life Unexpected feel like a family-hour show in the best possible way.
Wednesday
8pm America's Next Top Model
9pm Hellcats
Top Model meets Top Cheerleaders? Sure, why not. We're cautiously optimistic about Hellcats -- hey, it's got Q from OTH as well as High School Musical's Tisdale and Aly Michalka from Bandslam. For that alone, we'll give it a chance! As for Miss Tyra and the girls... well, how can you resist?
Thursday
8pm The Vampire Diaries
9pm Nikita
Like we said above, we really like Maggie Q, and the clips they showed looked pretty spectacular. We'll take it. We're a little concerned that they tore Supernatural away from The Vampire Diaries, but... well, we'll talk about that in the next bit.
Friday
8pm Smallville
9pm Supernatural
Sigh. A few things about this: One, they were very clear that this was Smallville's last season, so ... yeah, sorry fans. The time has come. Two, while we're glad Supernatural won't be in the Thursday Slot of Doooooooom up against Grey's Anatomy and CSI any more, well... we're kind of seeing Friday at the day where they send the shows that they think are for boys to hang out. Plenty of women watch both Smallville and Supernatural, but that's not what the net seems to think. Look, we'll keep watching our boys wherever they are on the schedule, but we have to admit, we're concerned.
So what do you think of the fall sched? Do the new shows intrigue you? Talk about it in the comments!
Comments
Oh I forgot - but whatever that show is that took over Supernatural's time slot: prediction: it won't last half a season against shows like CSI Las Vegas or Greys Anatomy. But silver lining I guess...I'll now be tuning into CBS on Thursday nights. Goodbye CW, maybe I'll see you on Friday nights ONLY for Supernatural.
And looking into the future a bit, I will pray to GOD that Supernatural's final season will be the 6th. I will not stand for this injustice if the CW decides to pick it up for another season just cuz its ratings will always be higher than the teen dramas - and then keeps it on the Friday time slot...
Right now I'm so sad I can barely type. I'm just so heartbroken... I've known that Supernatural hasn't had much publicizing and I managed to jump over that hurdle. But Kripke and co, Jensen, Jared, Misha, Jim...everyone working on this show deserves more respect than this...

OMG I DiDNT SEE THiS POST UNTiL TODAY AND iM SO PiSSED!
I didn't know that Supernatural was being moved to Friday! Being at college, my Fridays are always booked but I love this show so much I can't bear to part from its final season. DAMN YOU CW!! God I hate this network sooo much (not you guys, Cwsource since you guys dont make the decisions that discard Supernatural when the network would obviously die without it). But seriously?! How could the CW do this?!
1. I'm glad Supernatural is outta the CSI, Grey's Anatomy slot. I've been preaching from day 1 that's the reason why so many people can't watch this awesome show despite how amazing it is.
2. WHY MOVE iT TO FRiDAY?!
That's where the encore of America's Next Top Model was - and basically the least viewership of all the other days.
Seriously, how can the CW do this to the show that kept them alive? If it weren't for stable shows like One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural, the network would've died long ago. I saw how rocky the past years have been for the CW. Melrose Place was canceled, Life is Wild was canceled, Aliens in America was canceled, Reaper was canceled, The Game was canceled... Gossip girl and 90210 are holding on by a thread. Their ratings aren't that good... REALLY CW?? THiS iS HOW YOU REPAY A SHOW THAT KEPT YOU ON LiFE SUPPORT?
Supernatural is the only show that keeps me coming back to teh CW. I have watched the other shows but nothing draws me in like Supernatural does.
I understand that the CW is trying to promote its other shows, but this is NO WAY to treat a veteran show that has had such a large following. I also have a lot of issues with the promotion of Supernatural as well. I see all these commercials for Gossip Girl, 90210, One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries, etc... RARELY will I see one for Supernatural. This is a terrible strategy for teh CW. Promote the show that will likely gain the views and KEEPS their interest. People watch those random teen dramas on and off. It doesn't matter if they keep following the storyline cuz its mainly just the same crap over and over again. A lot of other fans agree, with the right publicizing, Supernatural could've been as big as the Lost phenomenon. It's an interesting storyline just as the X Files made FOX what it is - Supernatural drew the same kinda audience. the CW could've been big...too bad they want to promote the shows that draws little dedicated viewership.
I'm serious. Supernatural doesn't deserve this boot to Friday night. I really want to write a letter to the CW. Knock some sense into them. I know it won't change anything, but maybe they need some reminding about how Supernatural helped their network out and maybe a reason to look at how other networks are prospering.
I really am just so appalled... Does anyone know the address I can send my complaint letter to?
Looking at this, I now WISH that Supernatural ended with season 5 on a high note with a respectable amount of viewers. Isn't that sad, CWsource? Isn't that sad how a loyal fan ALL the way from Season 1 wants a show to end because she doesn't want to see the ratings suffer due to a bad timeslot (and a bit because I think Kripke ended it really well with the flashbacks and Chuck narrating)? Isn't that just heartbreaking?

I watched seasons 1 & 2 of Gossip Girl and nothing of season 3, but maybe I'll watch it again. After all, who can't love x's and o's?
If not GG, I'll watch Hellcats. I'll get to dance and exercise while watching TV. Love it.
I've watched smallville since I was little. Don't get me wrong, there are entire seasons that I didn't watch(6,7,8). Of course I'll be watching, I've always been a sucker for strong boys.
The rest of the lineup I'm not into. Not at all.

I can't believe you moved the mighty Supernatural to the CW graveyard slot on Friday nights. Supernatural is the best show on TV! It has held its ratings through very tough competition and in a year when it's marking its 100th episode and winning awards, you deadtime slot it. Very sad.

I've really got no problem with Supernatural moving to Friday. It's the only CW show I really watch the night it airs, so whatever. If the move brings in more men to watch (which would be perfect - I always thought it was stupid that the fanbase was mainly women considering it's equally appealing to men), then it's all gravy. Supernatural's fanbase is rabid enough to follow it wherever it goes.
Not gonna lie, the new shows look rather... erm... lame. I doubt I'll watch. Pretty excited that Life Unexpected will be on for a second season, though!

I'm furious about them moving Supernatural to Friday!!!!! I don't care about Smallville, I never watched SV with SPN but I always loved watching TVD together with SPN and now stupid Nikita is in Supernatural's spot. I HATE IT!

I'm going to check out both the new ones, they look promising, meaning I now watch...7 of the 10 shows listed. Wow, I'm a CW nerd and I dont even get the channel.
In fact, Thursday for you all is Friday afternoon for me, so it's all cool.
I may give up GG as well, as Jenny was my favorite character, so I'm glad 90210 is there to fill the rich-kids void that I will have in my life ;)

I'm so happy OTH is renewed! I love it! It's my favorite TV Show.
I also like 90210 and sometimes I like Gossip Girl (it was better in season 1&2).
But the time slots doesn't matter to me, cuz I don't live in the USA.

Moving Supernatural out of the slot where it has done champion service for the CW in the year when it reached its 100th show milestone is a slap in the face. Friday is the graveyard where the CW sends shows to die. When is the CW going to give Supernatural the budget, promotion and respect it deserves?

Oh that's cool but I really wish the Supernatural wasn't pushed to Friday because my friend loves to watch the show right after my FAVORITE show The Vampire Diaries.

I smell cancellation.
I'm glad Life Unexpected has got another chance.
I hate the move to Fridays for Supernatural.
Thinking that Smallville & Supernatural, hopefully 90210 & Gossip Girl, probably One Tree Hill & also Life Unexpected (since these two were 'bubble shows') won't be back for the 2011-2012, the CW needs to find something that works and quickly.
