Smallville cast getting ready for the final season

Our Smallville interviews are going to start getting a bit precious as the clock winds down to the final episode next year. Luckily, we got two in at Comic-Con.

Laura Vandervoort and her adorable Canadian accent are back for the 10th and final season as Kara Kent. According to Laura, hijinks will ensue between Clark and her character.

Meanwhile, Justin Hartley is beefing up the ol' resume with a Smallville directorial debut somewhere around episode 20. Look out, Tom Welling, you've got competition in that director's chair.

What do you guys think? Are you excited for the final season? Sad? Hungry? All of the above? Let us know in the comments.

Comic Con Exclusive: Erica Durrance answers your questions about Lois and Smallville

You ask, we deliver! We're still recovering from the non-stop sensory explosion that is Comic Con, but we've got the first of our video interviews ready to go. First up: Erica Durrance of Smallville.

Erica gives us some hints about how things will change between Lois and Clark now that she knows about his dual identity, talks about playing the damsel who isn't all that distressed, and tells us who she really wishes she was sharing scenes with. Check it out!

This is just the first of many, folks. Stay tuned for more from Smallville (we're editing our video chat with Justin Hartley as we speak) and the rest of your favorite CW shows!

Get ready for the red and blue suit, Smallville fans

We have to say, attending the Smallville panel this morning was a much bigger thrill than the enigmatic Vampire Diaries panel last night. And it's not because it's the morning and we haven't gotten burnt out on panels yet. The cast was energetic and forthcoming, and it was nice to plumb deeper depths than the nature of Justin Hartley's abs. Not that there's anything wrong with that. We just prefer not to feel dirty after attending a panel.

We'll be seeing some old favorites in season 10, including Laura Vandervoort and John Schneider. We'll also be seeing more of the red and blue suit, which is actually the same one used in the film "Superman Returns," which is just plain awesome. However -- not to doubt your muscles, Tom -- you might need some creotene to get to Brandon Routh proportions. That guy is a horse.

Other points to note about season 10 are: Tess will be back to stir the pot some more, Darkseid will be the primary villain, and Tom Welling will direct another episode. One attendee got to take home Welling's signed name plate when she asked for it during Q&A -- although that was only after John Schneider told the security guy to back off and just give it to her already. That's why he's Jonathan Kent.

All in all, it was a good panel. We especially liked the touching moments. Tom Welling recounted working with Christopher Reeve, who, Welling says, stayed to work four hours more than his nurse's instructions. And that is why he's Superman.

The Sourcies 2010 wrap-up: Your winners!

We've come to the end of another Sourcies season, only to find that a New CW-World Order has arisen. In the past, the Sourcies had broken down into a battle between two fan favorites -- Supernatural and One Tree Hill -- with Gossip Girl occasionally landing a punch. But now? Now there's a new 800-pound gorilla in The CW jungle, and its name is The Vampire Diaries.

The freshman vampire romance dominated the Sourcies, winning eight of the 10 categories. The Salvatore boys and the women who love them brought wins in Best Kiss, Best Fight, Hottest Moment, Best Villain, Biggest Surprise, Best Recurring Character, Favorite Bad Boy and Best Cliffhanger.

But the Winchester boys and their allies on Supernatural fought back. They managed to fend off the bloodsucking fiends and take the Funniest Moment and Most Heartbreaking Moment categories.

If you take the two televised titans out of the equation, One Tree Hill, Smallville and Gossip Girl got the most love. One Tree ill was second-runner-up for Best Kiss, Most Heartbreaking Moment, Favorite Villain, Funniest Moment and Favorite Recurring Character. Smallville was second runner-up for Best Fight, Hottest Moment and Favorite Cliffhanger. And Gossip Girl brought in the yellow ribbon for Biggest Surprise and Favorite Bad Boy.

Congratulations to all the shows, and thanks to all of you for voting!

The Sourcies wind up the season with Best Cliffhanger

Yet another Sourcies season comes to an end... but we've saved the best for last! Our top shows hit us with loads of delicious cliffhangers this year, but which one rises above the others? Take a look and see what you think:

The poll closes on July 21 at 11:59pm central. Feel free to share the poll, but send folks back to us to comment. We'll wrap up all of the Sourcies on July 22 -- and then we dive straight into Comic Con!

July 12, 2010

CW Sourcies: Favorite Bad Boy

Everyone loves a bad boy, even if they don't want to admit it. The same is true at The CW, so we're not going to judge -- we'll leave that up to you. Whether it's Dean, Damon or Chuck, we want to know about it. This time, it's good to back your rebel without (or with) a cause.

Who's your guilty bad boy pleasure? Polls close on July 19 at 11:59 p.m. Central, so get voting!

July 8, 2010

The Sourcies Plays Favorites with Best Recurring Character

You know we love our stars on The CW, but sometimes it's the people we don't see every week that make a show shine. With that in mind, we've got a passel of familiar faces nominated for Best Recurring Character. Take a look:

We're winding down the competition, so this poll will close MONDAY, JULY 19 Wednesday, July 14 at 11:59pm Central. (Sorry -- I'm apparently really looking forward to Comic Con, because I jumped a week ahead on my calendar.) One vote per person. Feel free to share this poll with all and sundry, but send folks back to us to comment.

And congratulations to The Vampire Diaries, which won the Biggest Surprise category with the revelation that sweet little lip-locking Elena was actually fiendish, finger-chopping Katherine. Chuck's disappearance on Supernatural was a close second.

The Sourcies is ROTFL with Funniest Moment

The Sourcies love a good laugh, and The CW loves to deliver said snickers. We had plenty to laugh at on our fave shows this season -- sparring couples, secrets (and more!) revealed, high-times hijinks, badly worded confessions, smirking bad boys, and a certain "homage" to other TV shows that left no one unscathed. Take a look:

Which moment split the most sides? Your votes decide! The poll is open until 11:59pm on July 11. One vote per person. Feel free to share the poll (and send it out to all your fellow fans -- that's what's driving the voting!), but please send people back here to comment.

Editor's note: Le sigh. Once again, we're having trouble making a closed poll believe it's a closed poll. I've begged our poll provider for help with this, and I'll keep you updated. In the meantime, here's a screenshot of the results taken after the poll was supposed to close:

Congrats to Supernatural, which narrowly edged out The Vampire Diaries with a 4.5 percent surplus of votes. No one else even came close (although OTH fans did their best for the Brooke/Haley v Bunny Battle.) Thanks for voting!

And congratulations to Katherine from The Vampire Diaries for winning the closest competition yet! She took the title over Lucifer by only nine votes. Nine! We're thinking Lucifer should put her on payroll, because she's obviously got the chops to be his number-one purveyor of mayhem while he's trapped in the pit.

POING! The 2010 Sourcies have got some surprises for you!

Apparently the CW enjoys the sound of jaws hitting floors, because they served up several helpings of surprise this season. What shocked you the most? Baby drama? Mistaken identities? Relationship surprises? Big character twists? Take your pick for our contestants below:

Poll closes at 11:59 pm Central on July 7 (assuming our poll provider fixes the bugs). One vote person. Feel free to share the poll, but send people back to us to comment.

In results news: After a seriously hard-fought battle, Supernatural ended The Vampire Diaries' winning streak by the barest of margins. Congrats to Supernatural for taking the Most Heartbreaking Moment category!

The Sourcies embrace the eeeeeeeeeeevil with Best Villain

If you listen to our podcasts, you know that we have a weakness for unrepentant, mustache-twirling eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil on our shows. Fortunately, The CW knows what we like, and they deliver villains galore. Now, we're not talking about boys with a tough attitude that conceals a heart of gold -- that's what the Bad Boys category is for. We're talking villains -- people who would happily eat your heart just because they were a bit peckish. You know, wicked.

But what flavor of wickedness do you go prefer? Machiavellian machinations? World-dominating supervillainy? Complete craziness? Sexual ensnarement? Honest-to-God end-of-the-world-we're-all-gonna-die destruction? There's so much to choose from! Take a look:

Who's the evilest of them all? Your votes decide! The poll is open until July 4 at 11:59 pm Central. One vote per person, and yes, we're enforcing that to the best of our ability. Feel free to share the poll, but send people back here to comment.

Oh, and a big congrats to Stefan and Elena from The Vampire Diaries, who handily won Hottest Moment. No one else was even close!

June 24, 2010

The Sourcies jerk some tears with Most Heartbreaking Moment

You'll excuse us if we're a little fragile at the moment -- we've been sobbing quietly into our hankies as we went through the roster of your nominations for most heartbreaking moments on the CW this season. It was a bad year for moms, love and brothers on The CW, and we're still recovering. See what we mean below:

OK, because our poll provider is being wonky, and the poll is supposed to be closed, I'm taking a snapshot of the results and taking it down. And the winner is:

Oh, and congrats to Damon and Alaric of The Vampire Diaries, who defeated the tomb vamps and won the title of Best Fight. Actually, those tomb vamps were less of a challenge than Castiel and Dean from Supernatural -- the vampire/teacher duo fended off the angel/Hunter smackdown by only 4 percent. Well done winning that tough fight, boys!

The Sourcies bring sexy back with Hottest Moment

The CW sure knows how to heat thing up ... so much that we couldn't limit ourselves to just five super-hot moments in this Sourcie category! Check out the video to see which moments made our temperatures rise this years:

Who's the hottest of them all? Your votes decide. The poll closes at 11:59 pm Central on June 28. One vote per person -- and yes, we've got our tech as secure as possible, so we mean that. (If we tightened it any more, we'd have to ask you to come in and cast paper ballots!) Feel free to promote and share the poll -- heck, we encourage you to get as many of your fellow fans across the globe to vote -- but please send people here to comment.

Oh, and speaking of hot: Congratulations to Damon and Katherine (although he thought it was Elena) of the Vampire Diaries, who took the Sourcie for Best Kiss with 43 percent of the vote. Well done! (Oh, and Damon -- if you need to practice your pucker over the summer, we're available...)

June 17, 2010

Put 'em up for Best Fight in the 2010 Sourcies

The 2010 Sourcies is back with another hot contest: Best Fight. That's right, we're not only pitting these shows against each other, we're also showing the beat-downs and punch-ups that happen in the context of the shows themselves. So which fight defeats the rest? Take a look:

So which fight knocks out all the others? Was it the raid on the tomb vamps' house to rescue Stefan on The Vampire Diaries? The Clark vs. Zod fisticuffs on Smallville? The James sisters pool brawl on One Tree Hill? Liam's righteous smackdown of Jasper on 90210? Or the angelic beatdown Castiel dispensed to Dean on Supernatural? Your votes decide!

Voting closes at 11:59 pm on Sept. June 23. One vote per person, and we're enforcing that. Feel free to link or embed, but please send us the traffic for comments -- and yes, we love to hear from you (trash talk and all). But enough of the official stuff -- get voting!

June 14, 2010

Pucker up for The Sourcies: Best Kiss

It's time for the opening salvo of The 2010 Sourcies, and we're kicking things off with a big one: Best Kiss. And The CW gave us plenty to choose from!

Some changes this year: We're using the most stringent security we can to prevent multiple voting. We hope this doesn't make it difficult for anyone to vote, but if it does, we apologize. Voting is open until June 20, 11:59pm Central time. You are welcome to post a link (which we'd prefer) or the poll (which is less happy for us -- come on, we need the traffic!) on your blog, fan site, live journal, etc., but please send people here to comment/trash talk/etc.

So which pucker is worthy of first prize? The revealing embrace on Smallville? The so-wrong-its-right liplock on The Vampire Diaries? The reconciliation kiss on 90210? The elegiac goodbye on Supernatural? The celebratory smooch on One Tree Hill? That's for you to decide -- vote now!

Hello out there in Sourceland! We've got big plans afoot for the summer, and we need your help! We're compiling nominations for the 2010 Sourcies, which will run from June 14 through July 16. Why the short run? Because after that, we'll be sending you news from Comic Con, the TCAs, the Teen Choice Awards, and still more events until the new season starts. So let's got to it!

Our Sourcies categories this year are:

  1. Best Kiss
  2. Hottest Scene (as in, sparks flying between two people, usually with some bom-chicka-wow thrown in)
  3. Best Fight
  4. Most Heartbreaking Moment
  5. Most Surprising Moment
  6. Best Villain
  7. Funniest Moment
  8. Favorite Bad Boy
  9. Favorite Recurring Character
  10. Best Cliffhanger

We're expecting big things this year with the addition of The Vampire Diaries -- will the Salvatore brothers be able to give the Winchester boys from Supernatural a run for their money? And how will One Tree Hill fans vote now that Leyton is out of the picture? Do the scrappy underdogs from Life Unexpected have a chance at glory? Will Gossip Girl reap in votes what it gets in buzz? Will Melrose Place get some love from the fans even though the network canceled it? Will Smallville fans come out in force after the move to Friday night? Will 90210's crazy plot twists make the grade? And will America's Next Top Model bask in rewards or wallow in dreckitude?

It's all up to you: Let us know what scenes, characters and moments should appear in each category. We'll present our slate of Sourcies starting June 14 -- get ready, and may the best show win!

The CW: Hellcats and ass-kickers join the schedule

The CW is sticking with what works, adding just two new shows to its schedule. But those two shows allow the net wot stretch out its original programing over five nights -- a first for the relative newcomer.

In keeping with The CW's emphasis on TV for chicks who spend, the net's two new shows feature women -- one concentrating on women who do high kicks, while the other follows a woman who kicks ass.

New shows:

Hellcats - Wednesday 9pm
So, remember "Bring It On?" Remember the part where a rebel-type chick who used to be a gymnast joined the cheerleading team, and hilarity ensued? Take that plotline, move it to a university in the South where football is life, then stir in Ashley Tisdale as the leader of the cheerocracy and Tom Welling as an executive producer. Go, Hellcats!

Nikita - Thursday 9pm
Maggie Q is the titular character, a woman who was taken out of prison and trained to kill for the CIA. Now she's escaped the agency, and she wants to make sure the ones she left behind have an opportunity to flee as well. Plus, Maggie Q had the best quote of the Upfronts: "I don't think any of you understand how good looking it is backstage. It's very intimidating. I had to push the A cups up a little. We exist!" How can we not want to love the show after that?

We've got the full fall schedule -- and our comments -- after the jump. Read on!

Check out our new Facebook page...OR ELSE.

Since we follow a whole lot more entertainment than just The CW, we've put together Snark Syndicate; a Facebook page that runs tabs on the industry and directs readers to the best news and time-wastingest content. Like this re-edited video about George Costanza. Why did we post it? Because it's hilarious. We love it. You'll love it too.

We also cover items with a little more heft, like the Conan O'Brien vs. NBC saga, what's going on with your favorite Glee actors and what TV pilots to expect this fall. Basically, it's a one-stop-shop for some entertainment news, our Source content and some extra giggles.

As a special side-package we've also started a Twitter feed, Pop Connoisseur, as a speedier way to get the news out there.

Best of all, this is another chance us to interact with you and you to interact with each other. Comment on our posts, let us know what you like and don't like in entertainment, and start some conversations. We'd love to hear from you.

CW Fans: Defend the Hotness Honor of Your Fave Stars!

It's been a while since we've had a knock-down, drag-out fight to the death over the hottitude of our favorite CW stars. Fortunately*, the drought is over -- and you have two opportunities to vote for your preferred people in bracket competitions!

The fine folks at KWGN in Denver are hosting a Battle of the CW Hotties as we speak. Right now, the Women's bracket is up, but you can still vote in the Men's bracket as well. The second phase of the Men's competition launches Friday, and the second round of Women's matches goes up on Tuesday, February 18 -- so get voting!

Then there's an all networks battle to the death over at the South Florida Sun Sentinel, where CW stars are going up against the juggernauts from the other four broadcast networks. The Bad Boys division (which includes Chuck Bass, Dean Winchester and Damon Salvatore -- and Dean and Chuck are currently losing) is already off the front page, but you can still vote. Keep checking this page throughout the next month to support your fave stars!

* We know, we know -- there are those among you who sneer at such things, who protest that we should focus on the content of the shows and the nuances of the acting rather than the exterior facade of the people who bring our favorite characters to life. And we like to think we do that here... but that doesn't stop us from being able to celebrate the aesthetic pleasures these folks bring to bear. Are we shallow? Maybe. But we are having fun!
